12.04.14 Winners of Korea Kids Choice Awards 2012

Recently, Nickelodeon held the "2012 Korea Kids' Choice Awards" where many kids pick there favorite comedians, singers, shows, and many more.

Most notable winner was comedian Yoo Jaesuk, who has been the winner for this category for five consecutive years. This year he won with 5,236 votes (63%) maintaining his honorable streak. Yoo Jaesuk said, "I thank all the children who voted for me in receiving this prize. Last year I wanted to challenge myself for my fifth consecutive win and I'm very happy that I was able to."

For "Best Female Singer," IU took the win with 3,567 votes(43%), achieving first place again for two consecutive years, displaying her power of this generation. For "Best Male Singer," popular boy band BEAST won with 3,493 votes (42%) against 2PM who was the winner last year.

Also the winner for "Best Actor" with 3,862 votes (47%) was none other than Kim Soohyun. He proved he is popular amongst kids as well as adults.

In total, 8,283 kids participated in this online voting event.

12.05.10 BEAST to team up with Janet Jackson's choreographer, Robert Steinbacher

Robert Steinbacher, one of the world's famous choreographer will meet with popular boy band BEAST next month in June.

Robert Steinbacher has worked as a choreographer with popstar Janet Jackson and Tony Braxston. He is also a national athelete as a gymnast for Germany and even as sports therapists in 15 different countries including the United States and countries in Europe.

BEAST and Robert Steinbacher are to encounter each other through "BEAST Body Art" DVD that BEAST will work on this upcoming summer. Robert Steinbacher, the founder of Body Art, will be coming to Korea in June and personally visit the set where BEAST will be filming. He will teach them the choregraphy that he had created. 

Body Art is a program that includes yoga, stretching, pilates, along with breathing techniques.

Robert Steinbacher planned to also experience the K-Pop world during his stay in Korea. A representative of Body Art stated, "Robert has always had great interest in K-Pop and was really excited for his visit to Korea. Through YouTube, he discovered BEAST and complimented and praised them that they had great energetic dance moves and music."

It has said that when BEAST had their world tour concert last Febuary in Germany, Robert Steinbacher was upset that he was not able to make their show, thus, bringing him personally to Korea to teach BEAST the Body Art choreography.

A representative of Cube Entertainment states, "The BEAST members are anticipating on working with Robert Steinbacher and his choreography. With an upcoming comeback ahead, they will be receiving good care in their body and health through Body Art. They will be back soon with good appearances."

12.05.27 Rolling Stone selects the Top 10 Korean groups that are most likely to succeed in America

Who are the top 10 Korean groups that would be mostly likely to succeed in America? On May 18th, popular American magazine,Rolling Stone, chose ten K-Pop groups that would be most likely to break through in America.

The top ten included Korea's popular artists: Girls' Generation, 2NE1, SISTAR, Wonder Girls, After School, miss A, Big Bang, SHINee, and BEAST, along with rookie solo singer Ailee.

All of the chosen artists were picked for similar reasons, such as the group members' English language skills and the level of success they have achieved in Korea. 

Rolling Stone analyzed the factors of the great popularity stating, "K-Pop is a mixture of trendy Western music and high-energy Japanese pop (J-Pop) which preys on listeners' heads with repeated hooks, sometimes in English. It embraces genre fusion with both singing and rap, and emphasizes performance and strong visuals." 

Netizens who had heard this news commented, "They're popular idols even worldwide," "It would be really great if they did promotions in America," and "I hope there will be a day when the names of Korea's singers will be known worldwide."

12.06.01 BEAST fans voice out their anger regarding broadcast editing of "Dream Concert"

BEAST fans (B2UTY) are protesting against the recent broadcast editing of the group's "Dream Concert" performance that recently aired on KBS. 

The "2012 Dream Concert" took place this year on May 12th at the World Cup Stadium in Sangam-dong, Seoul and was finally aired through KBS 2TV on May 30th. This year, idols such as TVXQ, Girls' Generation's Taetiseo, BEAST, 2PM, MBLAQ, 4minute, SISTAR, Secret, Infinite, T-ara, Teen Top and more participated in the concert.

BEAST's performance of "Fiction" and "Shock" was included in Part 1 of KBS's broadcast of the concert. However, BEAST's "Fiction" performance, which was the last stage to be broadcast in Part 1 of the concert was abruptly cut so that the commercial intermission could be played. This has angered a lot of BEAST fans who had been looking forward to their performance.

In addition, BEAST's "Shock" stage did not make it in the broadcast, leaving the group with one incomplete performance aired on television. Artists who participated in this year's concert had at least 2 songs or 1 song broadcast, and fans protested that BEAST did not even have a complete performance aired.

Following the broadcast, fans immediately protested against this on SNS. A petition has even started regarding the situation. BEAST fans are demanding that KBS apologize for their actions.

What was your first reaction when you saw BEAST's performance cut?

[NEWS] 120602 KBS explains, "We didn't cut out all of BEAST's performance"

KBS had stood up to explain their point of view on the matter of BEAST's cut performance on the aired episode of 'Dream Concert'.

On the 31st of May, there had been a petition going around Daum Agora titled, "2012 Dream Concert I love Korea."

On May 12th at the '2012 I love Korea Dream Concert' that took place in Seoul Amsangdong World Cup Stadium, BEAST had sung 'Fiction' and 'Shock' for the ending stage of the first part. However, on the broadcasted version of the Dream Concert that aired on May 30th, KBS had completely edited out 'Shock' and the stage for 'Fiction' had barely made on air.

The artists who performed at the concert had sang at most 2 songs and at least 1 song, however for BEAST, they had sang 2 songs and had 1 song completely edited out while the other song was cut in the middle. This has caused an uproar among the fans and the petition on Daum Agora is trying reaching their target of 50000 people.

In response to this event, on the 1st of June KBS had stated through a phone call with Star En, "It is not true that we had edited out all of their performance. The stars who had performed that day had sung at least 2 songs, however we had agreed with the different managements before anything was aired that we will only be airing one song."

According to KBS, only T-ara had two songs aired because they had a special stage and rest of the other artists had only one song aired on TV.

In addition, as a response to only airing a short bit of BEAST's 'Fiction' KBS stated, "That was out of our hands in regards to the time we had left to air the clip. For example, if this was a sports game and if the time went over, we would have done the same and cut off the broadcast in the middle. We hope that the fans will understand us on this part."

Meanwhile there are currently 3494 people who have signed the petition on Daum Agora.

Yang Yoseob: "I WILL DO THE BEST WITH MY POSITION RIGHT NOW"

Q1 : When you were first in CUBE, you suffered through a lot. But after spending time there, you eventually understood. How did you survive in CUBE?A: It isn’t easy to become a singer. I decided to join CUBE and I overcame a lot of difficulties before I reached the status I am in now. I knew my weaknesses. Director Hong knew them too. I used to get scolded for wearing knee-long training pants (bad style). Director Hong tried to control me as much as he could. He really wanted me to have the quality of a star. But at that time, I think he was upset and disappointed most of the time. Now, when I think about it, it seems that I was too busy and focused in building up my skills passionately and that was very important to me. That’s why I think I have to pressure myself with that repeatedly even now.

Q2: Have you ever quit in the middle of training?A: Before I even thought about quitting, I tried to do everything well. I can look like a model student, but cannot match up to the work hard and seriousness. When Director Hong dismissed me, I heard that the developing team told a lot about me to Director Hong. Then, I was brought back to CUBE and I promised to work hard to show my improved qualities to Director Hong. Eventually, Director’s attitude towards me gradually changed until he eventually put his faith in me.

Q3: Did you have a mentor giving you the strength to hold on during those difficult times?A: The only people I knew were BEAST members. So when I was having hard times, I would go to them and say “Ah, it’s too difficult for me” and only they really understood what I was feeling. We believe in each other and I can share everything and anything with the other members. We cheer on one another and talk about our own feelings.

Q4: It seems that you dealt with failure and frustration very well. What advice would you give to those who have to go through the same process?A: I was desperate, but I naturally went through that process and got into this position eventually. I think I have strengthened my foundation to hold on for such a long time. I was trained for approximately six years. I envied my friends who got their positions early. But now when I’m introspecting myself, I think I can say that I learnt a lot from those times. Now I can overcome the difficult times after debut too.

Q5: In the first studio album, I think your vocal has improved a lot. How did you change it? Did you find it a challenge?A: Yes, I did. Before doing the album, I had a role in a musical. All the directors and musical seniors saw my singing. They gave me a lot of advice on how to sing sincerely and amazingly. I acted while expressing the song I sang to and so I learned a lot. Singing and acting in a musical was very interesting and I want to keep doing it.

Q6: I heard that Yoseob’s dream is to become a world star. What do you prepare to do it?A: Looking at myself now, I guess I thought that it was an easy thing. But lately, I did a lot of activities abroad and I found that the path to become a world star is really difficult. I’m not too sure about it, but I think I can do it. That dream is still very much a blur to me. Despite the difficulty, if I do the best with my position right now, won’t the fans abroad eventually recognize me too?

Q7: It seems like you are the most popular among younger fans. What’s your secret?A: Since debut, compared to the other members, I am the one with the most aegyo (cuteness). Fans think I'm cute and they say I look like a manga character. Younger friends also like my aegyo. To be honest, I’m grateful to whatever you like about me.

Q8: I heard your character is like a mother's.A: Before asking help from others, I will do something for them first. People say that it’s good intention, but in the past, honestly, I wouldn’t be able to do it.

Q9: What can you learn from being an idol?A: That we have to keep our image as a singer and an entertainer. We have to do the best, but I am always conflicted between singing practice and dancing practice. But even now, I still ask help from other staffs including the manager hyungs. To become a good model for others, shouldn’t I have more time?

Q10: What is BEAST Yoseob’s dream?A: I want to do a world tour concert. I want to collaborate with other senior musicians whom I respect, like Wheesung, Rain, and international singers like Justin Timberlake.
